ACIL provides services designed to enhance independent living for persons with various disabilities at no cost to the consumers of any age. A list of the services provided include:
- Advocacy services
- Involves advocating on behalf of an individual (i.e. calling a landlord on behalf of a consumer to widen a bathroom doorway and/or install grab bars)
- Information and referral
- Maintain comprehensive data files on resources in an individual’s service area so staff can provide information to accessible housing, transportation, available personal care assistants, and/or interpreters or readers
- Assistance with adaptive medical equipment
- Recycles durable medical equipment to provide free medical equipment to those in need
- Peer support
- Staff members are available to talk with and provide support to individuals on topics such as learning to use community services, adjusting to a newly acquired disability, or a change in living accommodations
- Independent living skills training
- Instruction to develop skills in areas such as personal care, coping, financial management, social skills, and household management
- May include education and training necessary for living in the community and participating in community services
- Community Transitioning
- Assists individuals in the process of returning to independence in the community
- Includes transition out of nursing facilities and youth transitioning to independence in employment and education
- Pre-employment youth transition services
- Available to students with disabilities beginning at age 14
Current operations during COVID-19
- Screening of staff and clients are done each day by asking wellness questions and monitoring their temperatures
- Visits may look different for each individual
- May occur over video technology, over the phone, or in other creative ways providers find to connect with families
