Fair Housing Contact Service
FHCS strives to prevent and eliminate housing discrimination and to promote equal housing opportunity for everyone. FHCS is an independent non-profit agency formed to provide support and encourage freedom of residence throughout our community. FHCS’s primary service area includes Summit, Stark, Portage and Medina Counties. FHCS also provides assistance to Ohio residents living in areas not served by another private Fair Housing organization. FHCS works to ensure that all persons, regardless of race, religion, national origin, sex, family status, or handicap, can secure the housing they want and can afford in the neighborhood of their choice. To help protect these rights FHCS provides assistance to individuals pursuing legal rights and remedies related to fair housing and housing discrimination issues. FHCS helps individuals with a disability ensure their right to a reasonable accommodation or modification. FHCS provides tenant/landlord counseling on the rights and responsibilities of landlords and tenants under the Ohio Landlord-Tenant Law. Topics covered include rental agreements, evictions, repairs, 24-hour notice, security deposits requirements, etc. FHCS provides comprehensive housing counseling including: home refinance, loan document review, first-time home buyers, HECM reverse mortgage, and default/foreclosure. FHCS also performs research in the area of housing and assists the professional housing industry in designing, implementing and evaluating programs for affirmative action towards an open housing market in its service area while also providing community education and promoting community involvement.
