Help Me Grow is a no-cost system of support for pregnant women, caregivers with new babies, and families with young children (5 years old or younger) with developmental and/or behavioral disabilities and delays.
Help Me Grow provides home visits, free developmental screenings, service coordination activities, some follow-up and monitoring services, parent training, and Individualized Family Service Plan development.
Help Me Grow also provides community resources to parents that they can use for food assistance, housing assistance, medical services, mental health and alcohol and drug addiction services, and more programs/services within the Dayton community.
Program services include:
Pregnancy and Parenting Support
- Home visiting is a prevention strategy used to support moms and new parents to promote infant and child health, educational development, school readiness, and prevent child abuse and neglect
Early Intervention Services (3 years and younger) help babies and children learn skills that typically develop during the first three years of life:
- Physical – reaching, rolling, crawling, walking
- Cognitive – thinking, learning, solving problems
- Communication – talking, listening, understanding
- Social and emotional – playing, feeling secure and happy
- Self-help – eating and dressing
Current operations during COVID-19
- Screening of staff and clients are done each day by asking wellness questions and monitoring their temperatures and masks will be worn and provided
- Each home visit will look different for each family
- May occur over video technology, over the phone, or in other creative ways providers find to connect with families
- Home visitors and Early Intervention service coordinators will explain what home visits will look like
- During this time, the preferred method for visits may be a virtual visit using technology or over the phone
- Staff may drop-off materials for individuals and their children or conduct a visit in a public space practicing social distance guidelines
