Special Needs Dentistry
If you have friends or family members who require special needs dentistry, we will provide the compassionate, gentle care they deserve. Patients with Alzheimer’s disease may forget about regular home care or get upset if someone else tries to help. Cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, and any illnesses that relate to movement can make brushing and flossing difficult. Conditions like Down’s syndrome or autism can make even a routine visit stressful.
We want all our patients, including those with additional challenges, to feel safe and comfortable in our office. Limitations and physical abnormalities may require us to modify traditional treatment to accommodate our patients’ specific situations. Dr. Backiewicz and our team will work with the primary caregiver, as well as the patient, to creatively develop an individualized treatment plan based on the patient’s needs and ability to tolerate the prescribed therapy. Before treatment, we will take the extra time required to explain the procedures and address any concerns our special needs dental patients may have.
Special needs dentistry includes patients with:
- Alzheimer’s Disease
- Autism Spectrum Disorders
- Cerebral Palsy
- Developmental Delays
- Down’s Syndrome
- Multiple Sclerosis
