Joseph Shapiro is an NPR correspondent, assigned to its Investigations Unit. He takes on long-form radio projects about social policy, criminal justice, health and other issues. He is known for his ground breaking reporting on disability, which he has covered for more than 35 years. Shapiro is the author of “No Pity: People with Disabilities Forging a New Civil Rights Movement”, which is considered a “classic” on disability.
