“IT TAKES GUTS” – HOW MICROBIOME RESEARCH CAN CHANGE SPINAL CORD INJURY CARE
Friday, December 8, 2023, 9:30AM | BRT 105 | Bagels & Coffee

Speaker: Ceren Yarar-Fisher, PhD, PT
Associate Professor | Vice Chair of Research, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation | Faculty Member, Department of Neuroscience

Director of Clinical Research, Belford Center for Spinal Cord Injury
Over the last 40 years, significant time and money have been invested in neuroprotection, both in terms of clinical trials and basic research, with no approved products resulting from this investment. The spinal cord injury (SCI) community feels simple solutions could improve care in acute and chronic settings. In this presentation, Dr. Yarar-Fisher will discuss the changes in gut microbiome after SCI and how these changes may influence remote organs and overall disease risk. She will also discuss how current microbiome therapeutics may be used to improve the quality of life for individuals with SCI.
