NOW AVAILABLE: On June 13–15, 2022, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) held a workshop entitled “Supporting Children with Disabilities: Lessons from the Pandemic.” Workshop presenters included service providers, researchers, government leaders, youth with disabilities, and caregivers of youth with disabilities. In this workshop, practices were identified that could improve the system of care for children with disabilities as well as improve access to services for underserved and marginalized populations. Recognizing that children and youth with disabilities have suffered disproportionately during the pandemic compared to their non-disabled peers, the broadest goal of the workshop was to highlight promising approaches and strategies used to address the challenges they faced and to consider what policies and programs should be sustained, expanded, or implemented beyond the pandemic to support children with disabilities and their families.
